Etched Glass at Yorkshire Decorative Glass Limited
Acid etching is a highly specialised technique, no longer widely available, for
creating a frosted pattern / obscured pattern on glass. Acid etching is time consuming
and therefore more expensive but etched glass offers greater versatility than sand
blasting. Acid etching creates a more refined pattern in the glass with a distinctive
satin like appearance, a wider variety of finishes and increased degrees of transparency.
As with sand blasted frosted glass / obscured glass, the effects of acid etching
are permanent and etched glass will not be damaged by cleaning.
Commonly used to recreate traditional pub windows and for listed building decorative
glass, acid etching is also regularly utilised by banks, building societies and
high street names to create etched glass logos as part of the corporate identity.
